Below is the content of the episode.

A woman with Korean traditional clothes and hairstyle, is choosing shoes.’

Maybe she's a model for a shopping mall?
Photographer: I think it’s better if you see it like this instead of holding it by the end

    Hyun Jung Kim: Like this?

    It’s Snowboards this time.

    Also in Korean Traditional Clothes

    Photographer: It’s really awkward...

Hyun Jung Kim: Really? What do I do?

PD: Are you filming an advertisement for Korean Traditional Clothes?

Hyun Jung Kim: Do I look like a model for Snowboards?

PD: Your form is kind of off

Hyun Jung Kim: Yes, my form is very off

    What is her identity?

    It’s an Art Gallery
Hyun Jung Kim in her Korean Traditional Clothes stand out among the crowd. It looks just like the character of this painting.
She’s the artist that painted it.

Hyun Jung Kim: When I refer to ‘Oriental Painting’ they only speak of ‘Hwa Tu’ or ’The Four Gracious Plants’ and when I say “I add color to the oriental painting” then they often ask “what material did you use to paint this?” Also, “Where is the ink stick?” When the audience think of ‘Oriental Painting’ they automatically think ‘bored’ but I’d love them to think “Wow, that was refreshing and fun"

A woman who’s sitting on bare floor is eating ramen noodles out of the pot.
In the meantime, her concern is elsewhere. She’s looking at a luxury purse and expensive cup of coffee.

    [Oops (2013)]

Hyun Jung’s work is always unpredictable

    [Feign : Harmony with Tranquility]

And the girl in the painting always wears a see through Han Bok(Korean Traditional Clothes).
Hyun Jung Kim gained her fame through portraying women in their daily lives and their ‘fein’ very direct and honestly.

Sold in 9 minutes, her ‘fein'

21st Century Genre Painting amused by ‘Han Bok Fein Girl'

Korean Traditional Painting can be ‘Hot’! ‘Fein Series’ Hyun Jung Kim

    Sold Out in Two Days!!!

She is very famous on the Internet.

Seung Hye Sun(Director of Seoul City Gallery): It’s never intense, and always very fun.
Looking at her work, it’s very entertaining, and at the same time her accurate portrayal of the fein that exists with every women that everyone is familiar with is charming and adorable.
Pop of the Korean Traditional Painting! and the already begun rising star.

    [Seoul Song Pa Gu]
Day starts very early when a new project begins.
Hyun Jung Kim: We are going to take pictures today that will be the foundation of my new project. Since I need to be in the Korean traditional hairstyle, i’ve been getting help because of it.

Hyun Jung Kim models herself for her painting.
Change is essential for her work.
It’s been three years since her work began, she even brings her own wig for the hairstyle.

Hair Stylist: I’ve never done this for an ordinary person. Maybe during Halloween?

Hyun Jung, you seem to like your change?
She is very used to baring through strange looks during her stroll. It seems like this is where she will do her work today.
    Instead of a brush, she’s a painter who’s chalking a cue.
    Her ‘fein’ begins.
    But, her form is awkward.

    Owner: Raise the cue more

    Hyun Jung Kim: This much?

Friend: Raising it makes it look more legitimate.
Hyun Jung mainly finds the topic of ‘fein’ through her own experience.

Hyun Jung Kim: When you think of shooting pool, you think of an image of a sexy woman. Honestly, you are more concerned with your position than shooting pool which is part of ‘fein'

Preferring High-Heels as oppose to a comfortable sneakers.
She wants to be pretty even during work-outs.
Passing people automatically stops to look.

Hyun Jung Kim: I think it’s a type of performance.
As the process is just as important to the result of the work in my opinion.

[Seoul Gangnam Gu Gae Po Dong]
Her studio where she spends majority of her time during these months.
    The long journey now begins.

Hyun Jung Kim: From beginning to end, I usually spend around twelve hours a day and it takes a month total.

It’s not easy to tell your story with your painting. At a young age, when she gained fame, not everyone was a fan.
At the time, hateful words came like daggers and stabbed her. Depression caused her to drop her brush for awhile too.

Hyun Jung Kim: I understand there are situations where you have to say good things in front of others but when you turn around you criticize. But that really hurt.
Hyun Jung Kim: I think that items like earphones, or Gingko leave, and Korean Bridal Crown should be added and I express this during the finishing phase.

In Sa Dong, It’s like a play ground for Hyun Jung who’s a Korean Traditional Painter.
She is suppose to meet a familiar face. It’s actress Jin Sung Yang. Her schoolmate from High School.
Best friends since then as well.

Jin Sung Yang: We don’t really get to see each other that often. Though at least once a month? We are both busy, I have my work and Hyun Jung’s paintings also require a lot of her time.

They are on separate paths now, but the two always cheer on each other very closely.
Seal Artist: Aren’t you Hyun Jung Kim the painter?

    Hyun Jung Kim: Yes

There are people who recognize Hyun Jung before they recognize her actress friend.

Seal Artist: Is your exhibition in May?

Hyun Jung Kim: Yes, it’s in June.

I guess it happens in In Sa Dong.

Jin Sung Yang: People often recognize Hyun Jung more than I. I am really proud. It’s great to say my friend is a very famous oriental painter when you meet people.
Thanks to her mother who loves Han Bok, Hyun Jung is very familiar with it. Naturally she was able to paint it.
Often she comes to get ideas from designs and colors of Han Bok.
Her mother is more concerned with seeing her busy daughter instead of the Han Bok.

Hyun Jung Kim’s Mother: Her work is much more difficult than people think.
So I rarely get to see her even less than when she was going through testing for college. She gets to her studio around nine o’clock then she gets home around one in the morning.

Sool Nyeo Park: I have to do a big deal with your work and Han Bok before you get even more famous. I better rush.
Even till very late at night, the studio is bright. She’s adding color, using Korean Traditional Paper as oppose to ink.
Hyun Jung Kim: I am trying to portray the wrinkles of Han Bok but it’s not easy as it seems. I have to put it on and remove it continuously until I can get the perfect wrinkle.
It’s the most boring, but very detailed process of her work.

Hyun Jung Kim: I wanted to better portray the transparent Han Bok and wondered what would do the trick.
Then, came across producing Korean Traditional Paper very thin like this, and thought I should do it as if you’re dressing a paper doll. That’s when everything just sort of clicked.

    [Feign : Keep it Up !  2014]
The work that took a whole month, has finally been completed.
Every Thursday, she teaches at a High School.
Hyun Jung Kim: When you think of the brush as 1, 1/3 should be light colors, and the rest of 1/3 should be darker colors…
You’re doing great, only thing is you keep doing this with the brush, as if you are writing with it raised like this. But you have to lay it down more when you are adding colors.

Student (Jiyoon Kim): Since she’s young, we get to connect with her more, and be more comfortable around her. And she teaches us very well with details.

Student (SooJung Shin): She’s very nice. Draws well. And very smart.

Hyun Jung Kim: I better buy some treats for the students next time.

[Seoul Gangnam Gu Chung Dam Dong]

She must have a very important meeting today. Such early morning and she’s getting a full make-up and hair-do.
Seeing her in Han Bok, it definitely must be a important day.
Artists including some internationally famous artists’ paintings are being exhibited today. This exhibition is set to help the poor by its proceeds.

Kwang Ki Lee (Actor): A lot of people pitched in with graciousness...
Out of the participated, forty-two artists, the youngest is Hyun Jung Kim.
This painting is the actor Jung Woo Ha. We also spotted singer Young Nam Jo’s painting as well.
Hyun Jung’s painting has a woman who looks just like herself looking at a mirror.
Hyun Jung Kim: I incorporate mirrors into a lot of my work.
Because, this is a self portrait and confessional diary, looking at myself is an absolute must.
This is her ‘story of fein'

Hyun Jung kim: If you can smile after looking at my painting, and gets to be amused by it, then I would love to continue to be a painter that does that with a honest story.
While filming, I’ve shared a lot of my own personal thoughts, and attempted to deliver an easier and closer version of my story of ‘story of fein’ work .
I wonder if you’ve enjoyed it.

I will continue to post on my blogs regarding process of work of portfolio, exhibition, media related news.
I’d like to thank everyone that helped me with the filming of this episode of MBC documentary.
    Thank you.
